Fire Planning for Scottsdale Homes
A study conducted by TNS of New York has “revealed that nearly half (46 percent ) of U.S. families do not have an evacuation or contingency plan in case of fire or emergency.”
It is essential that all Scottsdale homes and families be well equipped and prepared in case of an accident in the home. An emergency plan is only one important component and should be reviewed yearly with all members of the family.
Planning ahead of time for a fire is one of the most important things a family can do. Smoke detectors are an obvious necessity and should be installed on every floor of Scottsdale homes. “According to the U.S. Federal Management Agency (FEMA), two-thirds of fatal residential fires occur in homes that did not have smoke detectors.” Remember to test smoke detectors monthly and change the batteries twice a year.
All Scottsdale homes should be equipped with a fire extinguisher and a first aid kit. Another kit should be kept in the car. It may also pay to “learn CPR and other first aid techniques from your local Red Cross.”
