Scottsdale Property Owners Take On Developer

If there is any case that shows how much Scottsdale property owners enjoy their space, it is that of developer Henry Becker. Becker has been trying since 1998 to rezone his Scottsdale property on Pima and Happy Valley roads, but he "has found substantial opposition every step of the way."

His 60 acres of Scottsdale property are currently zoned for "large-lot single-family homes," but Becker wants "to create a mixed use development." His intended project would reserve 30 acres on the southern half for commercial development and the northern half "for higher-density neighborhoods or hotel use."

Trisha Morrison, president of the Prado Homeowners Association is glad that Becker has decided to withdraw his rezoning request until next year. In a statement regarding Becker“s Scottsdale property she said of the association, "we would support Mr. Becker“s right to build 18 homes on the property, as it is currently zoned, but we will fight any future proposals that seek similar, dramatic increases in density."
