Scottsdale Arizona Area Generating More Venues for the Performing Arts
Currently reflecting the Valley´s dramatic growth is the number of theatres springing up around Scottsdale, Arizona. Multiuse theatres are in the works for Mesa, Tempe, Peoria and Avondale, and Arizona arts councils are predicting the development of even more facilities in the near future.
It used to be that only Scottsdale, Arizona "rivaled downtown Phoenix as a destination for the arts," but these new arts centers are turning the Valley from an "old-style metropolis," with Phoenix and Scottsdale, Arizona as its "dominant core," into a "network city."
The new developments are expected to "create a sort of arts archipelago, venues of varying sizes with distinct, if overlapping, niches." Each arts center has to be very aware of what the other is doing in order for the archipelago to function properly and attract patrons from all over the Valley, rather than just from thier respective cities.
One thing all of the theatres need to keep in mind is that all of these urban revitalization eforts around Scottsdale, Arizona aren´t "going to be sustainable in the long term if we don´t have the fine grain that supports" them. The development of restaurants, shops and galleries will keep people coming back to the same theatres and areas time and time again.
