Desert Highlands, North Scottsdale's first master-planned residential community (opened in 1983), helped set the standards, guidelines and rules for subsequent communities. Desert Highlands encompasses 850 acres near the southern slopes of Pinnacle Peak on East Happy Valley Road near Pima Road. It's a 24-hour guard-gated community. The private, member-owned club offers residents an 18-hole Jack Niclaus golf course; golf membership is part of home ownership at Desert Highlands. Both fine and casual dining are offered at the club facility.
The community also provides a wide variety of recreational opportunities beyond golf. There is a five-acre, 18-hole putting course, seven tennis courts providing three different types of playing surfaces, a garden park, basketball court and a 3.5 mile looped path/trail system. At the stocked Desert Highlands Racquet Club fishing lake, residents and their guests can fish for bass, bluegill and crappie. Desert Highlands Pavilion Fitness Center is a 7,000 square foot, full-service fitness facility with the newest Cybex Galileo weight equipment, cardio equipment, personal training and free weights. Residents who prefer fitness classes can enjoy everything from aqua aerobics and tai chi chuan to Pilates and several types of yoga.
Desert Highlands takes the worry out of community life with a range of key home and community services that include full-service landscaping and grounds maintenance, complete pool and spa service and a concierge service. Residents who travel can be sure their homes will be looked after via the community's Residential Services.Τ
The community's 575 homesites are priced from the low $200,000s to around $850,000. Currently, over 400 custom homes have been completed in Desert Highlands, and another 25 homes are under construction. Homes range in price from the mid $700,000's to over $3,000,000. In late 2003 about 3/4 of the homes were built or under construction.
