Scottsdale
Homes

Scottsdale homes reflect the area’s
desert lifestyle, blending the architectural influences of Indian and
Spanish cultures with styles introduced by newcomers from other areas.
The materials commonly used in Scottsdale homes are both practical and
charming. Stucco and adobe hold their own in the desert heat and give
Scottsdale homes a character that showcase the region’s heritage.

The hacienda
or “Spanish” style Scottsdale home incorporates a front patio, and often
back patios or outdoor courtyard areas with gardens. The hacienda home
may include beehive fireplaces, inside and outside.

A prominent
tile roof characterizes the Mediterranean style home (also called Spanish
Colonial or Santa Barbara). The tiles may be s-curved or flat and colored
in different shades.

So-called California style Scottsdale homes
can be seen in many of the master planned communities. This style’s
flexible floorplan easily accommodates any number of bedrooms, and includes
a large master bathroom.

Southwest contemporary is a blended style
that’s popular for custom-built Scottsdale homes. These homes
are usually stucco, generally large and loaded with special features.
Traditional accents may include latillas (small branches used in making
ceilings) and stone, adobe or vigas (round wooden beams used as ceiling
supports). Custom tile roofs are common.

Indoors
and out, Scottsdale homes are built for casual living and outdoor entertaining.
Open-style great rooms replace the traditional living room/ dining room
in many Scottsdale homes; fireplaces are common accessories. A patio
area, pool and built-in BBQ are essential outdoor amenities. Misters
in patio areas help keep Scottsdale homes cooler and moister in the
extreme dry heat of summer. Landscaping desert-style means the addition
of a variety of cactus and drought-tolerant plants, decorative rocks,
and special irrigation systems.
